Modified Bilhaut-Cloquet procedure for Wassel type-II and III polydactyly of the thumb.
BACKGROUND The Bilhaut-Cloquet operation is a combined surgical procedure for the treatment of a symmetric bifid thumb. Although this procedure can obtain a normal-sized thumb with a stable interphalangeal joint, it has limitations, such as the technical difficulty of combining all segments of a duplicated thumb, possible later physeal growth arrest, joint stiffness, and nail-plate deformity. W...
متن کاملOutcome of reconstruction for duplication of the thumb in adults aged over 40.
Congenital duplication of the thumb is usually reconstructed by 18 months of age. This paper reports satisfactory outcome following reconstruction of two Wassel Type IV duplicate thumbs in adults aged over 40. Both achieved a good outcome based on Tada's criteria and a subjective Visual analogue score 8.
متن کاملLetter to the Editor regarding “Prognostic value of age and Wassel classification in the reconstruction of thumb duplication”
BACKGROUND Various surgical techniques for thumb duplication have been described. The main goal in thumb reconstruction is to achieve optimal function, stability, and shape. Few publications have quantified the functional results of each surgical option and factors that may affect these outcomes. METHODS We performed a retrospective review during the period from 1990 to 2011 of 115 surgery pa...
متن کاملReconstruction of Wassel Type VI Radial Polydactyly with Triphalangeal Thumb Using an On-top Osteotomy
BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to present a novel surgical technique using an on-top osteotomy and to assess the clinical and radiographic outcomes for the triphalangeal Wassel type VI thumb duplication patients. METHODS The surgical technique involves ablation of the radial thumb at distal one-third of the metacarpal, corresponding metacarpal osteotomy of the ulnar thumb, with amal...
